What is LongBar?
LongBar is an alternative tile-based sidebar for Windows XP/Vista/7. It is based on idea of Longhorn Sidebar. LongBar shows some relevant information to user using tiles. Tiles are mini-applications which can show some information or perform quick access to programs or actions. Tiles can be written in any .NET language.
LongBar written in Visual Basic .NET (LongBar 1.0 - LongBar 1.4) and C# (LongBar 2.0 - LongBar 2.1) using Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 and Windows Presentation Foundation.



What I need to start working with LongBar?

LongBar 1.4:
* Microsoft Windows XP (LongBar for XP) or Vista (LongBar for Vista)
* Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 (Note that some tiles can require higher versions of .NET Framework)

LongBar 2.0:
* Microsoft Windows Vista or 7
* Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 (Note that some tiles can require higher versions of .NET Framework)

LongBar 2.1:
* Microsoft Windows Vista or 7
* Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (Note that some tiles can require higher versions of .NET Framework)

Where I can get tiles?

LongBar 1.4:
You can get some tiles here http://cid-820d4d5cef8566bf.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/LongBar%20Project/Library%201.4. There are some files in *.tile format. To install them just double-clicking on file. You will see Install successfull message. If you don't see this message, that's can mean that for some reasons .tile format wasn't registered. You can install tiles by dragging it on LongBar.exe.

LongBar 2.0:
You can get some tiles here http://cid-820d4d5cef8566bf.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/LongBar%20Project/Library%202.0. There are some files in *.tile format. To install them just double-clicking on file. You will see installing tile dialog. If you don't see this dialog, that's can mean that for some reasons .tile format wasn't registered. You can install tiles by dragging it on LongBar.

LongBar 2.1:
To get tiles just click Get more tiles in LongBar context menu. You will see Online Library where you can download and install any tile with three clicks.

I would like to make a tile. How can I start?
You can download sources of existing tiles here http://cid-820d4d5cef8566bf.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/LongBar%20Project/LongBar%202.0%20SDK. Also you can find templates for creating tile in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 there, it can make your tile development a bit easier.
